Description: Buffalo Springs Campground, Co Rd 76, Buena Vista, CO 81211 – (719) 836-2031. Uncrowded, National Forest campground near Fairplay, Buena Vista and Breckenridge with low light pollution. (Light Gray) About 2+ hours from Denver or Colorado Springs, 15 miles south of Fairplay, west of Hwy 285. There are light domes to the East from Colorado Springs and Northeast from Denver but viewing to the Northwest, West, and South are generally close to “Dark Gray” – almost Bortle 2. Unlike the Weston Pass Campground, potable water is available on site and has larger, more private campsites. Lots of hiking in the area. Also fishing, South Park Museum, etc. are close by for ‘the family’. (Note: This is not ‘Campground of the Rockies’ which is a commercial campground with terrible light pollution, close small sites, and little privacy.)
