Cape Hatteras National Seashore, North Carolina, United States

Color Zone: Dark Gray
Is Camping Allowed? Yes
Entrance Fee? No
Description: Some of the darkest skies anywhere east of the Mississippi River are found here. Looking south and east there is nothing except thousands of miles of ocean. While many places on the Outer Banks are ideal for stargazing, Ocracoke Island is the best spot. Be sure to check the ferry times and reserve a campsite or lodging if you miss the last boat.
