Craters of the Moon National Monument, Idaho, United States

Color Zone: Dark Gray
Is Camping Allowed? Yes
Entrance Fee? $20
Description: Craters of the Moon is one of the best places for stargazing in Idaho. The unique volcanic landscape and black ground only seems to enhance the darkness. Just about anywhere along the loop road or in the campground would be a good spot to set up a telescope. There are few trees or anything else to block the view. Noticeable light domes exist from the growing cities to the south and east. But the sky is very dark overhead and to the north and west. The loop road is closed to vehicles between November and April.
