Burning Coal Vein Campground, North Dakota, United States

Color Zone: Light Gray
Is Camping Allowed? Yes
Entrance Fee? No
Description: Sadly most of western North Dakota has been taken over by bright fracking wells. But this corner of the Little Missouri National Grassland remains as one of the darkest spots left. It is very remote so be sure you have paper maps or save them to your phone. The campground itself has 8 sites, first come first served. Most sites are shaded, so it’s better to head to one of the trailhead parking lots for a more wide open view of the sky.
