Description: Ice House Observation Plateau 1 (IHOP1) is a large open space in El Dorado National Forest a little more than an hour outside of Sacramento, CA. Also try IHOP2 which is less than 1 mile away. Head north on Ice House Rd a short ways, turn left on Peavine Ridge Rd and look for a clearing on the left.

if you continue up to loon lake and follow the road around to the second dam, camping is allowed no entrance fee. You get a great view of the night sky over the lake with minimal light interference. I got some great pictures.
